Casa Arpaouza
The Arpaouza used to be a “large” building typical of the architecture of the Valley. On the ground floor there used to be the shed, above it the apartment of the owners and on the top floor the hayloft. Herbs and other products were often dried in the attic. The original structure has been renewed in 2004 maintaing though its authenticity in the outer part. The inside is now refined and comfortable.
Arpaouza in Occitans means “place for resting” : the shepherds used to rest there during their way up to the pastures. This is in fact is the aim of our house: to give a chance to relax and enjoy the silence and peacefulness of the mountains.
Our house is in Castello, a small and lovely village and it is situated in one of the most picturesque places of the town.
The Arpaouza is exposed to the sun all year round.
The outside kept the same characteristics as before in order to maintain the harmony with the the landscape while in the inside we reorganized the space, dividing it into 4 apartments.
The furniture is made of wood and made by local artisans giving to the environment a comfortable and refined atmosphere.
From the windows of the Arpaouza you have a great view of the mountains, of the flock's paths, the pastures, the woods and little villages still inhabited.
Looking toward the valley line you see the path that conduces you to Pietraporzio, the closest town, where you'll find shops and restaurants where you can taste the local traditional cooking and participate to the various events that are held there during the year.
The Arpaouza offers four bright apartments and a common room with a fireplace and a small library. The apartments are named and colored after the four most typical flower's of the valley:
- La Campaneto (yellow Primrose)
- Lou Serpoul (Lavander)
- Lou Brouas (red Rhododendron)
- Lou Chardoun (the light blue queen of the Alps)
